Dr. David Williams and colleagues at Brown University are conducting this research study, which is funded by the National Cancer Institute. This research study is for female cigarette smokers who want to quit. Participants will be provided with brief quit-smoking education at the beginning of the study and will receive the nicotine patch for 10 weeks, free of charge. In addition to receiving the nicotine patch, participants will be assigned to either an exercise program or a general health education program. The exercise and health education programs will take place over 14 weeks, with follow-up appointments 3, 6, and 9 months after the end of the 14-week program. Participants must have permission from their doctor before they can be enrolled. There is no fee for any part of this study and participants will be compensated for their time.

In order to be eligible for this program, you must first complete this online survey. If you appear to be eligible based on this survey, you will then be scheduled to attend an orientation visit at Brown University. If you are ineligible, we will keep your responses to our screening questions so that we can keep track of why people are screened out of our study. However, your name and contact information will be deleted.

Within this online survey we will ask you to enter information like your age and some more questions about your physical health and medical history to determine if you appear to be eligible to participate in this study. It will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. If you are eligible, we will ask you to enter some more information like your complete name and phone number, so that we can contact you regarding your participation in this study.

The only known risk to you for completing the online survey is that it will take a few minutes of your time and you may experience disappointment if it is determined that you are not eligible to participate in the study.

There is no cost to you and you will not receive any payment for participating in the online survey.

Your participation in this online survey is voluntary. Your responses to these questions are confidential.
